Leimonias Tennis Party 2017

On Sunday, 18 June 2017 the 32th Leimonias Tennis Party, for diplomats, politicians, captains of industry and civil servants took place at the beautiful premises of the Haagsche Lawn Tennis Club Leimonias, The Hague.  This prestigious tennis club was founded in 1888 and is still playing in the major league, having been champion of the Netherlands for 22 times. The President of

the club, Tom van Dijk, announced that the club became champion of the Netherlands this year again, something to be proud of. We want to express our deep gratitude to theBoard of Royal Vopak for their generous contribution to this traditional event. For the continuation of the Leimonias Tennis Party it is important to have the support of sponsors to be able to organize such a prestigious event.

This year we could welcome around 75 playing and none playing guests. The day started with a clinic given by the tennis school of Mark Paul Burgersdijk and it is always well attended by the tennis players among our guests. After the welcome words of the chairman, Pablo Mendes de Leon and Sam Crommelin, explaining the rules how to play and when to play the matches, the tennis players were gathered for the first series of matches. They entered the courts full of confidence and courage and were encouraged by the other guests. When the last round in the morning was played, we gathered and listened to a causerie given by our honourable guest for many years and former Dutch Minister, Mr. Laurens Jan Brinkhorst. He gave us his vision on the political situationLTP to-day and how it was in his time. Afterwards we started with the Dutch luncheon, followed by the last three rounds in the afternoon. At around 17.00 hours drinks and small bites were offered during the prize- giving ceremony, during which the prize winners of this year were announced.  The first prize for the ladies went to Mrs. Li Wenyi of the Embassy of China, who also won last year. She surprised us by singing some Chinese songs, which everyone enjoyed. The first prize for the men went to Mr. Jan Bert Schutrops, President Vopak Netherlands. They both won the silver Challenge trophy and their names will be engraved on the silver plate. The second prize for the ladies was for Mrs. Annelies van Thessen and for the men Mr. Satoshi Shiraishi, Embassy of Japan.  The third prize went to Mrs. Claire Carbonez-Dejaeger from Belgium and for the men to Mr. Yaser Heda, Board TomTom. Two consolation prizes were given to Ms. Ayako Yoshihara, Staff International Criminal Court and Mr. Tomasz Moszczynski, First Counsellor Embassy of Poland.

LTPWe want to thank the Board of TomTom for the 2 nice prizes for the prize winners of this tournament. We also want to pay tribute to our groundsmen, Chris Genemans and Ricky Persoon, who made it possible to play on the perfect courts and our caterer and crew for the excellent lunch, following the Wimbledon tradtition. The committee was impressed by the high standard of playing.

Considering the many “thank you letters” we received from you, we would be pleased to organize the 33th edition of the Leimonias Tennis Party in 2018, provided we will succeed to obtain the necessary funds to finance this event.
