25th Leimonias Tennis Party, 20 June 2010

The 25th Leimonias Tennis Party, on Sunday, 20 June last, was again a great success thanks to our many enthusiastic tennis players and our guests who watched them playing.

Despite the weather forecast, cloudy, windy, our guests could sit outside on the lawn and enjoy a delicious Dutch luncheon, with strawberries and cream, following the Wimbledon tradititon!

The Leimonias Tennis Party was officially opened by the Deputy Mayor and Alderman for sports of the city of The Hague, Mr. Klein, who replaced our Mayor Mr. van Aartsen who had to withdrawn at the last minute due to unforeseen circumstances. He gave a very enthusiastic and interesting speech about the rich history of Leimonias, who this year prolonged their title for championship of The Netherlands on these holy grounds! H.L.T.C Leimonias won the championship already 18 times before.

In the welcome speech by the chairman of the Committee, Mr. van Eesteren, he memorized Mr. Dijkstal, former Minister, who passed away on 9 May last.

He and his wife Anneke were dedicated participants of the Leimonias Tennis Party and last year he surprised us with an enthusiastic and humoristic speech about the many years he enjoyed participating in the tournament and expressed his great sympathy.  We will all miss Hans Dijkstal very much and want to express our thoughts towards his wife Anneke.

The traditional start of the tournament is the warming up clinic, given by Mark-Paul Burgersdijk, coach of our first team (mayor league), which is always very well attended!

Thereafter the matches started and the tennis players entered the tennis courts full of confidence and courage.

At the end of the day the winners of this year were announced, being Mrs. Annelies van Thessen and Mr.Arie Bosman. They won the silver challenge trophy and the two bottles Leimonias’25th celebration sparkling wine!

26th  Leimonias Tennis Party next year.

‘s-Gravenhage, as without them it would not be possible to realize such an event!
